    Missions

The commitment to missions within the Danville Baptist Church is measured in several ways. First, there is the indication of mission dollars. An amount of $13,500 is designated yearly out of DBC’s operating budget. Secondly, there is a mission’s weekend each spring, which features different missionaries, or mission projects DBC supports. Thirdly, there are monthly moments for missions, with reports from the field being shared with the congregation.

A fourth expression of our deep commitment to missions lies in the field of short term mission trips. During the past seven years, over 20 members of the church have participated in mission tripts to Haiti, with most of the church members going on multiple trips. Members from the congregation have journeyed to Oklahoma, Michigan, Arizona, Latin America, New York City, Washington DC, and into the Appalachian region of North Carolina on various missions trips. It is these experiences, which strengthen the heartbeat of missions within the DBC, for at the heart of missions lies personal encounters of sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Another expression of the church’s deep commitment to missions occurs through special offerings received in times of disaster, such as helping the relief efforts following hurricane Katrina & the tsunami in Indonesia.

The pictures on this page are from our Missions Weekend in March of 2006.  Pictured at the top of this page are Al and Susan Boush, Wycliffe missionaries to Papua New Guinea.  In the bottom picture, Susan is sharing a moment with the children during our morning worship servicve.  Paul Malkemes, one of the co-founders of the Boston project in Dorchester, is pictured in the middle photo.

    Boston Project

The Boston Project is a community-based organization in Boston with a passion for seeing renewal in urban neighborhoods. They operate several neighborhood outreach ministries and also partner with over twenty faith-based and secular organizations to meet the physical, social, academic, and spiritual needs of people. Our motivation is our Christian faith and this principle summarized in the Gospels: Love God and love your neighbor. The last few years we have been participating with the Newton church (Karen Malkemes) in donating lasagnas.

    News from our missionaries
    Charlie and Doreen Snow
    July 2009

Charlie drives several Ranchers to work each day, to Safeway Katrina Nursing Home and the recycling center in Sedona. He works with them at the center until it's time to bring them all home, about mid-afternoon. Then he's off to the local grocery store around suppertime to pick up another Rancher who works in the afternoon.

Doreen is helping out with physical therapy sessions for an hour every morning, then going to the weaving room. The staff and volunteers get the looms set up and the materials ready, then the Ranchers do all the weaving and most of the finishing. She's working with another woman to write up a program to teach scrapbooking to the interested ones. They want everything written down so everyone knows what to expect, and can step in to help out.

Continue to pray for those working on the mission field away from home this summer.
